Celebrate the holiday season in Toronto with lighting displays, parades and other family events, all while you prepare for festive fun at home.
Santa Claus Parades
Most people know about Toronto's huge Santa Claus Parade that travels through the heart of downtown and draws massive crowds. But we also have two other parades in the city, put on by local BIAs. So whether you want the excitement of the large floats and even larger crowds or would prefer a more low-key and personal affair, there's a parade to suit your family.
- The Toronto Santa Claus Parade (Sunday November 16, 2009)
- Weston Village Santa Claus Parade (Sunday November 22, 2009)
- The Lakeshore Santa Claus Parade (Saturday December 5, 2009)
Downsview Park's Trail of Lights
Visit Downsview Park any night in December and you can take a drive along trail decorated with towering - and often animated - LED light displays. Returning for the second year (the first year was a walking-only trail, which is still available some Wednesday nights), this ticketed event is worth a look. An outdoor encounter with the holiday-themed characters and scenes that make up the Trail of Lights is a memorable way to mark the festive season.
Holiday Hours at the Malls
All of the malls are eager to help you get your Christmas shopping done, so you'll find they have extended hours during the holiday season, most beginning right at the start of December. Check this quick list to find the malls nearest to you will be open during the last month of the year.Toronto Hydro Festive Light Exchange
Every year Toronto Hydro gives residents the opportunity to trade in two strings of old Christmas lights for one string of the more energy-efficient LED lights. Head to one of the exchange events that take place around the city to make your holiday a little greener.
Want a Real Christmas Tree This Year?
Although they're not for everyone, a carefully chosen and well cared for real tree is an important part of Christmas for many families. You can pick one out at a tree lot, or make an afternoon of heading out to one of the many cut-your-own tree farms near Toronto.Christmas Craft Shows
Looking for unique, handcrafted gifts or decorations? While the One of a Kind Christmas Show and Sale is the most well-known, there are a number of events around the city in late November and early December featuring the work of Canadian and local artisans and craftspeople.Take-Out Turkey Dinners
Do you want to have a big, home-cooked Christmas dinner... without all that cooking? There are several places in Toronto where you can order a whole Christmas (or Thanksgiving) dinner that will be ready for pick-up. Just remember to get your order in early!More December Events
