The Trail of Lights at Downsview Park
Holiday Light Display

A welcome to the North Pole hangs in lights (2008)

Marilyn Campbell

Due to construction at Downsview Park, the Trail of Lights will not be taking place in 2011. The details from 2010 are preserved below for those who are curious about what the event may be like if it indeed returns in 2012.

The Trail of Lights is one of the newer holiday events in Toronto, but is already becoming a tradition. From late November to early January evenings at North York's Downsview Park are transformed into a seasonal experience by LED light displays that decorate a gravel and asphalt trail.

When the event was introduced in 2008 it was strictly a walking trail. This made for an ideal evening for families and hand-holding couples, with the outdoor nature of the Trail of Lights giving it a unique atmosphere among Toronto's in-city holiday events. Since 2009 the event has switched over to be mostly a drive-through tour, with Walk-Through Wednesdays available as designated pedestrian days.
