Recycle Your Tree After Christmas

In some areas with big backyards, people like to mulch their own trees or lay them out in the yard whole for birds and wildlife to take shelter in over the winter. Here in Toronto fewer people have the space to recycle their Christmas trees in this way, but the city is ready to do the recycling for you.

City waste collectors will pick up Christmas trees on specially designated collection days, generally in January. You'll have to find the specific days on your local collection calendar - they will be indicated by a picture of an evergreen tree (If you don't have a copy of the collection calendar for your area, you can find it online at the City of Toronto Garbage and Recycling website). The trees will be treated as organic waste, so be sure to remove all decorations before you take it out to the curb.
