You don't often hear people talking about window-shopping at a Canadian Tire, but with the variety of products available browsing around can be a lot of fun. If you actually need to work on your car or a project around the house though, you may want to set yourself a spending limit, just to be on the safe side.

Seven Departments = More Than Just Tires

If you're from Canada, you're likely familiar with Canadian Tire. But if you've never been inside one, the name can be confusing. Originally Canadian Tire just dealt in automotive parts and service, but now Canadian Tire carries everything from camping and sports gear to kitchen gadgets and home decor.

The size and stock of each Canadian Tire will vary, but in general you can expect to find the following seven departments:

  • House & Home
  • Kitchen and Bath
  • Outdoor Living
  • Sports & Rec
  • Tools
  • Electronics
  • Automotive

Canadian Tire Services

Along with products, Canadian Tire offers services ranging from their gas bars and car maintenance to high-interest savings accounts. Key cutting, skate sharpening, and hunting and fishing licenses are just a few of the other services you may discover at a store near you. Visit in person or use the links in this article to get full details on what each store offers.

Canadian Tire Money

Canadian Tire money is another Canadian tradition. These coupons - which have a similar look and shape to normal currency - are given out in 5¢, 10¢, 25¢, 50¢, $1 and $2 denominations when you purchase gas from a Canadian Tire Gas Bar. You can then use them towards any purchase in a Canadian Tire store. If you have a tendency to collect Canadian Tire money without ever spending it, various charities and not-for-profits are happy to accept it, such as the Etobioke Humane Society.

Giving Gifts from Canadian Tire

Canadian Tire was always a top choice when I needed to buy something for my Dad, whether it was for his birthday, Christmas, or Father's Day. Now Canadian Tire makes it easy to buy gifts for anyone with their gift registry program. Couples can register for weddings, or individuals can create "Wish Lists" for any occasion. If the person you want to buy for hasn't made a list, browsing can still yield plenty of ideas, and if all else fails Canadian Tire has $10, $25, $50 and $100 gift cards available.
