Get a Picnic Permit for You and Your 24 Friends

By Marilyn Campbell, About.com

Whether you're planning a family reunion, a company party, a volunteer recognition event or just want to get a bunch of your friends together while the weather's nice, a picnic can make for a fun and memorable event.

But hold on before you start sending invitations. Did you know that for groups of 25 or more, you need to get a permit from the Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation Division to use a picnic area in city parks?

There is a fee ($58.41 for the 2009 picnic season) and there may be restrictions on barbecuing in certain parks. Permits are given out on a first-come, first-served basis, usually beginning in early January. But don't let that stop you from calling later in the season. You may not get your first choice, but there are a lot of picnic areas in Toronto to work with.

If you'd like to inquire about booking a spot for your picnic, call the parks permit office at 416-392-8188 before 4pm, Monday to Friday.
