Toronto Job Listings Online

Job Boards You Can Access on the Internet

By Marilyn Campbell, About.com

If you're looking for a job in the Toronto area there are plenty of places you can turn to on the Internet to find listings of work opportunities. Some of these web-based job boards also provide advice and support for employment seekers, and many allow you to streamline the application process by saving your resume online.

Before you begin responding to ads however, be sure to familiarize yourself with some of the employment scams that unfortunately make their way onto these boards. If you're not already aware of the red flags, read About.com Job Searching Guide Alison Doyle's article on Avoiding Employment and Work at Home Scams.

Doyle's site is also a great place to get help perfecting your self-promotional documents before you apply. Remember, even though it's easy for you to click a button and submit a saved resume, it's still in your best interest to include a carefully written cover letter as well!

General Job Boards - International/National/Provincial

Job Bank Canada
Service Canada provides this database of employment opportunities, but these aren't government jobs. These ads are posted by regular employers, and you can search them by occupation and location. Once you're looking at the results for Toronto, you can even refine your search to a certain area (Etobicoke or Toronto North, for example). Use the Job Alert to have job listings emailed to you.

Monster.ca
Free registration allows you to post your resume online and have jobs matching your criteria emailed to you. You don't need to be registered to search, but many companies don't supply any contact information beyond Monster's "Apply Now" function that you have to be logged in to use.

Workopolis.com
Anyone can search for jobs by industry, location or keywords. Contact information is provided to apply off-site, or free registration allows you to apply using a resume you've saved on Workopolis.

Hcareers - Hospitality Careers
Job postings from restaurants, hotels, attractions, cruise ships and more. Registration allows you to post a resume, but is not required.

JobBoom
Anyone can search jobs by location, industry or keyword but you can only view the job details if you register.

General Job Boards - Local

Toronto Craigslist
Craigslist always has plenty of ads, but remember to evaluate them carefully. You can also post your resume under the "resumes" section, and keep in mind some employers misunderstand and put job postings in that section, too. Also check the gigs listings if you're interested in something short-term, occasional, or are willing to take very lo/no pay to get experience in an industry or try something new.

Eye Weekly
The employment listings can be sparse, but often among them are some of the most unique jobs you could hope to find posted. Be sure to look in all the categories that fall into your areas of interest, not just under "employment".

Now Magazine
Select by industry or just click on the title word "Jobs" to see all. Note this page also has a link in the forum section to an employment discussion that isn't Toronto-specific but may help in sifting through any potential scams.

The Toronto Star and The Globe and Mail
Both The Star and The Globe use Workopolis, so if you're checking that site you're already seeing the ads those newspapers have online.

The Toronto Sun
The Sun uses JobBoom, so if you're checking that site you're already seeing the ads The Sun has online. Registration required.
