For 2009 the Toronto International Film Festival has expanded the free programming that was first introduced in 2008. For the full run of the festival Yonge-Dundas Square will be the site of free film screenings, performances and other activities, beginning at noon each day.
Free TIFF Programming for 2009
So what are the free TIFF events at Yonge-Dundas Square? There are several kinds of events taking place:- TIFF Live In Concert Film Series - Music documentaries and concert films old and new will be screened, many preceded by shorts from the National Film Board of Canada and other music-themed shorts.
- TIFF SHHH! Silent Movies - Classic silent films such as 20 000 Leagues Under the Sea and Robin Hood will be screened in the afternoons.
- TIFF YDS Spotlight - Festival films will be highlighted with special events such as a roller-derby exhibition and swing dance lessons.
- TIFF Kids Zone - For one day only (Saturday September 12th) the afternoon programming will include face-painting and other activities for kids.
