March Break in Toronto 2008

Activites for the Whole Family

By Marilyn Campbell, About.com

Every year students from both the Toronto District School Board and the Toronto Catholic District School Board get a week-long break in the middle of winter. A few years ago the schools started officially referring to this by the rather bland and obvious title of "Mid-Winter Break", but most people still call it by the old name, March Break. Tons of family-friendly events and activities take place in Toronto during March Break, including week-long day camps for both kids and teens.

When is March Break?

In 2008, March Break runs from Monday March 10th to Friday March 14th.

March Break Activities for the Whole Family

Double-Up Days at Toronto Ski & Snowboard Centres
From March 10th - 16th when you buy a one, two, or four hour pass at either the Centennial Park Ski & Snowboard Centre or the Earl Bales Ski & Snowboard Centre, you'll get twice the time you paid for on your Snow Pass. Take note though, equipment rentals will NOT be available during March Break, so you'll have to bring all your own gear.

Frogzibitz at the Toronto Zoo
Special stations and a "Frog Dome" help you explore the Year of the Frog, an international conservation effort. March 7-16, 10am - 4pm.

Darwin: the Evolution Revolution at the ROM
This special exhibition is actually sticking around until August 4th, but it's still handy that it opens on the 8th, just in time for March Break. Learn about the development of Darwin's ideas, see actual fossils Darwin collected, and meet live tortoises and frogs from South America, while the Kids Activity Zone delves into the life of an explorer.

Spring Fling 2008
From March 7th to the 16th the Rogers Centre gets taken over by an indoor carnival. Rides, games and an indoor skating rink keep things hopping from 10am to 7pm every day. Bring your skates and your stamina! (Seriously, bring your own skates. They don't have rentals).

Canada Blooms
Canada Blooms: The Toronto Garden and Flower Festival opens on the 12th and runs to the 16th. Even though it's not strictly a March Break event there's still The Green Playground, a special area for kids staffed by the Toronto Botanical Garden.
