The Algobay

Taking a five-year break

For years a common sight when crossing the Ship Channel Bridge was the Algobay, docked inside the channel. After starting life shipping coal for Ontario Hydro in 1978, the Algobay changed roles numerous times over the years until it was finally brought to the Portlands for extensive repairs in late 2002. That's where it remained until November of 2007 when the ship's owners, Algoma Central Corp, had it tugged to Hamilton with plans for it to finally return to service in another two years.
