Growing out of the earlier Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Task Force, Waterfront Toronto was founded in 2001 as a government-funded corporate entity to help plan for sustainable residential, commercial and tourism-based development of various under-used areas of the waterfront. The Portlands is one of their main focus areas, with beautification as one of the projects. The plan calls for 1.4 million to be spent on greening Cherry Street, adding more trees and landscaping.
