The Queensway Cinema in Etobicoke

Plenty of free parking is available

The Queensway Cinema has eighteen screens, friendly staff, ample food choices and is one of Toronto's only movie theaters with plenty of free parking.

Location of The Queensway Cinema:

The Queensway Cinema is in South Etobicoke, on the south-west corner of Islington Avenue and The Queensway. If you ever drive on the Gardiner Expressway, it's the big theater you're seeing the back of when you're just west of the Islington exit.

Inside the Queensway Cinema:

The theater has eighteen large screens, so there are always plenty of movies to choose from. Food service inside the theater offers lots of variety, including a Tim Hortons, a Yogen Fruz, and an Outtakes (which serves pizza and hot dogs and such), along with the standard concession stand fare of popcorn, candy and pop.

For entertainment before and after the movie, you can play videogames in the Cinesape section or during peak hours you can peruse DVDs, CDs and movie paraphernalia in a small store called Xtraz. If you've booked a birthday, you can make use of the party room.

What's On at the Queensway Cinema:

The Queensway Cinema is a first-run theater, showing new releases as they come out. Because it has so many screens many movies stick around for longer than you'd expect, so if you think you've missed your chance to see something on the big screen, check to make sure it isn't still on at Queensway.

This is also one of the Cineplex Odeon theaters used for special event screenings like Maple Leaf games, WWE events, and live and encore broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

Getting to the Queensway Cinema by Transit:

There are two TTC buses that stop on the same corner as The Queensway Cinema. All of the Islington South buses from Islington Station stop at The Queensway. The 110 Islington South runs from Islington Station to Lakeshore, while the 110A and 110B run from the station to the Long Branch Transit Loop.

The number 80 Queensway bus that runs from Sherway Gardens to Keele Station is another option, but it's less frequent and changes its route on Sundays, only making it as far east as the Humber Loop.

Getting to the Queensway Cinema by Car:

If you're driving, a great thing about this movie theatre is the free parking. The entrance to the lot is on The Queensway, between the Montanta's and the Scotiabank.

From the east/west, The Queensway itself runs from Mississauga to Roncesvalles (where it splits into King and Queen West). Or you can use the Gardiner Expressway and take the northbound exit for Islington Avenue. Just take care crossing Islington to make the lefthand turn, which you'll have to do right away.

From the north/south, Islington runs from Lakeshore Boulevard right through Toronto, or you can take the 427 to the Gardiner and head east.

What's Nearby:

The Queensway Cinema shares its parking lot with a number of restaurants. With a Montana's, a Milestone and a Kelseys so close, it's easy to catch dinner and a movie.

There's also a Scotiabank in the same parking lot in case you need some cash, and an Esso gas station right across the road, on the north-west corner of Islington and The Queensway.

Other dinner options include the Swiss Chalet, Mr. Greek or The Mandarin that are located at the Kipling-Queensway Mall, an easy walk or very short drive west along Queensway.

If you want to make a day of it, you can head to Ikea before the show, which is just a few blocks west on The Queensway, past Kipling Road.

The Sherway Gardens shopping mall is west along The Queensway, just past Highway 427.
