Toronto is well-known for the impressive array of theatrical experiences to be had, but did you know that includes plenty of shows created with children and their parents in mind? Here are some companies to consider if you'd like to take the whole family out for an afternoon of kid-friendly stage entertainment.

Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People
Previously known as the Young People’s Theatre, LKTYP has been creating outstanding theatrical experiences for children and teens since 1966. Generally the weekday shows are reserved for school groups while the weekends are open to the public, however individual tickets are occasionally available for weekday shows. There is also educational tie-in material for every show available on the website.

Solar Stage Children’s Theatre
With numerous shows throughout the year in two venues, Solar Stage Children’s Theatre offers ample opportunity to take children to a live and intimate performance that’s designed just for them.

Shrimp Magnet Theatre Company
Founded in 1999, Shrimp Magnet brings exciting, interactive and affordable entertainment to families visiting and living on the Toronto Islands.

  • Price Range: Regular season show is Pay What You Can

Ross Petty Productions
A seasonal tradition for many families, the annual “Fractured Fairytale” is a musical adventure designed to entertain ages 3 and up.

  • Season: November to January
  • Performance Venue: The Elgin Theatre, 189 Yonge Street

Famous PEOPLE Players

Medieval Times
Part attraction and part theater, Medieval Times lets families watch a live joust while they dine… without utensils! It can be great fun cheering on “your” knight, but a word of caution based on personal experience - leave your friends with horse allergies at home.
