Things to Do in Toronto This Weekend: Friday January 25 - Sunday January 27, 2013

  • Sunday January 27 is Family Literacy Day across Canada, and special events are planned at the Ontario Science Centre (with Robert Munsch, Barbara Reid, Wayson Choi, and others), Story Planet, and numerous library branches.

  • The Interior Design Show is on at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre this weekend, with an opening night party on Thursday, a day for professionals on Friday and then general admission available on Saturday and Sunday.

  • If you'd like to explore the work of some contemporary designers while you explore local businesses, Do Design is a free four-day event in the Dundas West neighbourhood that will use storefronts and other venues to display pieces by more than two dozen designers. It runs January 24 to 27.

  • Toronto's Ultimate Travel Show is on in the Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place on Saturday and Sunday.

  • The National Bridal Show is on from Friday to Sunday at the Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place.

  • The prix fixe fine dining event Winterlicious begins on Friday and continues until February 7.

  • This weekend's featured events at City of Toronto museums include a Robbie Burns' Day Celebration at Mackenzie House and a Gibson House Neighbourhood Social, both on Sunday.

  • It's a big weekend for events at the Bata Shoe Museum with a "Glamour and Grace: 1950s Fashion in Film" series screening of Les Girls on Thursday, BSM/ROM Member's Reciprocal Day on Saturday, and the sold-out "Roger Vivier Lecture Series - The World of Dior" on Sunday.

  • The Marlies are in town on Saturday.

  • On Saturday morning the Alzheimer Society of Toronto is holding their annual Manulife Walk for Memories in Toronto's underground PATH in Brookfield Place.

  • At Harbourfront Centre this weekend Shannon Cochrane speaks for the Sunday Scene event at The Power Plant and it's Ladies Night with DJ Melboogie and JJ Rock for DJ Skate Saturday Night.

  • There's a Downsview Park Nature Connection event on Sunday, based around the theme "animals in winter".

  • And from the calendar of User-submitted events for January:
    • The Icewave SickKids Beach Volleyball Event is on Saturday.

    • The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir offers a free concert as part of the 3rd annual Choral Conductors' Symposium.

    • On Saturday there's a "Poseidon's Illusion" talk on politics and the environment at U of T.

    • Also on Saturday is a HYPNORRISH Hypnosis Comedy Show at The Black Swan Tavern.
