As usual, the end of the year has brought a lot "best of" lists to the web. But this week there are two chances to get out and experience some of Toronto's best entertainment from the past year, plus some new shows from proven creators.
Canada's Top TenPresented by the Toronto International Film Festival, Canada's Top Ten is an annual event which names the ten best Canadian features and ten best Canadian short films from the past year, as selected by two panels. The films are then given public screenings at the TIFF Bell Lightbox at King and John. This year the screenings begin on Friday and continue until Sunday January 13. You can check out a trailer for the entire series of films on YouTube.
Next Stage Theatre FestivalMeanwhile, the Next Stage Theatre Festival is an annual event presented by The Toronto Fringe. Although Fringe is best known for the large summer Toronto Fringe Festival which selects shows by lottery, the Next Stage Theatre Festival features a handful of productions selected by a jury of industry leaders. Some shows are a re-staging/revamping of previous productions, while others are premiering. The 2013 NSTF begins today and also continues until January 13 with all shows at Factory Theatre. For mingling before or after the shows, there will also be a heated McAuslan Beer Tent in the Factory courtyard.
