Things to Do in Toronto This Weekend: Friday November 16 - Sunday November 18, 2012

  • Toronto's big Santa Claus Parade is on Sunday, beginning at 12:30pm at Christie Pits and making its way east along Bloor Street then south down University Avenue all the way to Wellington/Front Street and the St. Lawrence Market.
    • On the day of the parade, the "Toys for the North" program will be at the CHFI booth at the Royal Ontario Museum, collecting donations of new toys which the RCMP will deliver to children in Canada's north by Christmas Day!

  • The 100th Grey Cup Festival offers numerous events around the city from now until the big game next Sunday, November 25th.

  • For some evening celebrations of the season, the city's Cavalcade of Lights concert, fireworks display and DJ dance party is on Saturday night in Nathan Phillips Square, with Alyssa Reid, Sean Jones, Suzie McNeil, and Dragonette performing.

  • There's also a Winter Tree Lighting in David Pecaut Square on Friday night, and a holiday lighting event in Bloor-Yorkville on Saturday evening featuring Matt Dusk.

  • Beginning at 8pm on Friday, Toronto comedian Pat Thornton takes to the stage at Comedy Bar to perform 24 hours of stand-up comedy as his dare in support of the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Only $10 gets you come-and-go privileges all night and day, but whether or not you can attend, you can donate online at Pat Thornton's Dare Page.

  • You can take your canine friend to Winter Woofstock, which is on Saturday and Sunday at the Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place.

  • On Friday night the Design Exchange is hosting DX INTERSECTION, a relaunch party and fundraising gala.

  • The Gourmet Food and Wine Expo is on at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre from Thursday to Sunday.

  • Toronto's American Hockey League team the Marlies are in town on Saturday and Sunday, and are hosting a Movember Awareness Night on Saturday (check out the promo video on YouTube).

  • The special Christmas at Black Creek weekend holiday programming begins at Black Creek Pioneer Village this Saturday.

  • On Friday the Royal Ontario Museum is holding a Canada's Oceans and You symposium. Meanwhile, the theme for this week's ROM Friday Night Live event is "Canadian Classics", celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1972 Canada/Russia hockey series.

  • People who are serious about their toys can head to the International Centre in Mississauga for the Toronto Toy, Doll and Train Collectors Show on Sunday.

  • Also on at the International Centre is the Seasons Christmas Show from Friday to Sunday.

  • This is the final weekend of the 2012 Rendezvous With Madness Film Festival.

  • The European Union Film Festival offers a variety of free screenings at the Royal until November 27.

  • And from the calendar of User-Submitted Events for November:
    • The multi-media play Fare Game: Life in Toronto's Taxis begins on Friday at Theatre Passe Muraille.
    • On Saturday night, Fat Kid Rules The World is the closing night screening for the Rendezvous With Madness Film Festival.
    • There's a "Swap - Don't Shop!" Clothing Swap Party on Saturday at Beaver Hall Gallery.
    • Also on Saturday there's a IPPINKA design-focused pop-up store appearing near Queen and Palmerston.
    • And Sunday is the free EcoFair 2012 at Wychwood Barns.
