Things to Do in Toronto this Weekend: Friday February 24th to Sunday February 26th, 2012

The final weekend of February offers some engaging activities for kids and parents, the annual IceFest event in Yorkville, and much more.

  • The Canadian International Auto Show continues at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre until Sunday.

  • The Outdoor Adventure Show is on from Friday to Sunday at the International Centre in Mississauga.

  • Bloor-Yorkville Icefest 2012 features ice sculptures and ice carving demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday after opening with the fundraising party IceNite on Thursday night.

  • Saturday is African and Caribbean Cultural Heritage Day at the Royal Ontario Museum.

  • Unfortunately the Kortright Centre for Conservation has had to cancel Dog Sled Races planned for this weekend due to a lack of snow, but they're still offering an evening "Owl Prowl" program on Saturday night.

  • There's a also a Hoot and Howl event in Rouge Park on Saturday night.

  • Among the special events at city museums this weekend, Family FUNdays continue at most locations this Sunday, on Friday night Montgomery Inn offers the Black History Month presentation Finding Freedom: The Joshua Glover Story, Fort York has partnered up with the Culinary Historians of Canada to celebrate marmalade on Saturday, and the Canadian premiere of Rapture by Joanna Murray-Smith begins at Todmorden Mills on Thursday.

  • On Sunday afternoon the Bata Shoe Museum offers the next event in their Roaring Twenties Lecture Series with theatre and film designer Martha Mann Southgate speaking about "Interpreting the Designer".

  • For families, Totsapalooza: Mouse-City Calling edition is on Sunday at The Revival.

  • This Sunday is the final day of the Model Railroad Club of Toronto's "Romance of the Rails" show in Liberty Village.

  • Also on Sunday afternoon, the Royal Canadian Institute for the Advancement of Science is holding the free event "Let's Talk Science", offering hands-on activities for kids ages 6-12 (Look under "Winter 2012 Lectures" on the website for details).

  • And from the calendar of User-submitted events for February:
    • The Fondue Feastival continues at all three Bier Markt locations until Sunday.
    • Tonight (Thursday) Milton District High School is holding "A Taste of Milton".
    • On Saturday volunteers will be at the Toronto Humane Society building shelters for homeless cats.
    • The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir is holding a Singsation Saturday workshop at Yorkminster Park Baptist Church.
    • And on Saturday night the Huntington Society of Canada is holding a Casino Royale fundraiser at the Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex (CNE grounds).
