High Marks for New School Board Director
The Toronto Star gives a small profile of Chris Spence in the ParentCentral.ca article "Toronto school board names new director". According to education reporter Kristin Rushowy, Spence is not only "a well-regarded and award-winning educator, author and filmmaker" but even had a previous career in the CFL. Having been a principal and superintendent in Toronto, Spence has been the Director of Education in Hamilton since 2004. I'm not well-versed enough in Ontario's current leaders in education to have heard of Spence before, but from what I've read this morning he simply sounds like the person to head up the TDSB.
If you'd like to get an in depth look at Spence's philosophies, a quick search of the Toronto Public Library website shows three books by Spence on the shelves and CBC Radio One has archived a transcript of a short interview Spence did with Andy Barrie about a mentoring program for boys without a father in their lives.
