Feburary 14th: An Important Day for Love (of Reading)
Do you know an elementary school that is working hard to promote literacy in a challenging environment? Do you think they could make use of some extra program funding and a big pile o' new books?
The Indigo Love of Reading Foundation offers large grants to schools that are "high need" and committed to literacy projects. According to the website, a selected school can receive up to $150,000 over three years, with 90% for new materials (purchased through Indigo at no profit to the corporation) and 10% for program funding.
Applications for the 2008 grants are available on the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation website and are due on February 14th. With only ten schools added to the program each year, the application is understandably detailed and will take some time to complete. So if there's a school you think should be applying, make sure they know about the program right away.
Even if you don't know of a suitable school, I highly recommend visiting the website to watch the incredibly sweet Indigo Love of Reading Foundation ad (which is sweet as in "awwww", not as in "dude, that's sweet!"). At the same time you can learn about supporting the foundation, so it's win-win.
